Abstract
Considering the huge volume of operations related to road construction in the highways of our country, in the case that the efforts of the authorities is for reducing the initial costs in the design of the pavement and estimation of the project costs, without considering the costs of the project operation phase and its life cycle, it is possible that an option of the pavement be selected that is not affordable. Meaning that choosing an option may be associated with lower initial cost to the employer due to the lack of higher quality and life, however, it imposes the need for successive repairing, blocking roads and higher costs to the employer during the project lifetime. In this study, it is attempted to evaluate and compare three types of highway pavements in the forms of jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP) and roller compacted concrete pavement (JPCP) with hot mixed asphalt pavement (HMA), which requires studying the experiences of some foreign countries and collecting the available data and performing other researches. Totally, it is concluded so that the jointed plain concrete pavements are of less life cycle cost as compared to the other pavements and the JPCP pavements are a reliable and acceptable option in the heavy highway traffics and their repair and maintenance are also more desirable regarding their higher lifetime in comparison with asphalt and roller options in the framework of NPV index (net present value) or EUAC (equivalent Uniform Annual Cost).
