Abstract
Using macro-synthetic fibers in fresh and hardened concrete, improves its mechanical properties and decreases the shrinkage; it also can be a good alternative for steel fibers and temperature rebars, and that’s why its use have extended in the previous years. The investigated fibers in this study, are modified polypropylene which is a kind of macro-synthetic fibers with acerate shape and web mesh. In this study we aim to determine the optimum content of fiber by investigating engineering properties of fiber-reinforced concrete. To do this, control sample was made with 400 kg/m3 cement and the w/c ratio was 0.38. Five mixtures with 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 6 kg/m3 of fiber were also made. Then tests on fresh concrete including workability, air content and specific weight were conducted according to ASTM C143 and ASTM C138, respectively. Tests on hardened concrete including compressive, flexural, residual strength and Young modulus were conducted according to EN-12390-3, ASTM C78, ASTM C1609 and ASTM C469, respectively.
The tests were conducted in Road, Housing and Development Research Center and Rock Mechanics Laboratory of Amirkabir University. The results show that adding modified polypropylene fiber, decreases the durability of concrete against freeze and thaw.
